Asbestos licensing in Florida, Illinois, Connecticut and Delaware
Who licenses asbestos contractors and consultants in the four states in this directory, which credentials exist and how to check them.
Asbestos abatement is regulated by federal rules, but most states run their own licensing or certification programs, and the details vary. This directory draws on four official files. This guide explains what each one contains, so you know what a listing means. Requirements change, so confirm with the state agency, whose contact details are on the EPA’s state asbestos contacts page.
What is common
The EPA says asbestos professionals, including workers, contractors, supervisors, inspectors, management planners and project designers, must be accredited through training at least as stringent as the EPA Model Accreditation Plan, and that state and local agencies may have more stringent standards. States use that framework to run their own credentials. A credential shown here means a state file lists it as active. It does not tell you about the quality of the firm.
Florida
Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) publishes an extract of asbestos licenses for board 59. We use the records for the asbestos contractor type (prefix CJC) and for the asbestos consultant types (prefixes such as AX, EA, IA, AF and DD) that show a current, active status with an expiry date in the future. These licences are mostly held by individuals, so many Florida listings show a person’s name, or a business name where the file records one. Illinois
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) licenses asbestos abatement contractors and publishes its list of asbestos licensed contractors on the state’s open data portal. IDPH describes the list as contractors responsible for conducting asbestos abatement projects, all of whom must have current insurance and be licensed. The file also includes firms based outside Illinois that are licensed to work there, and shows a licence expiry date and, for many, whether they do residential removal. Connecticut
Connecticut records asbestos and lead credentials in its eLicense system, published on the state open data portal. The file contains separate credentials for asbestos contractors, abatement supervisors and workers, asbestos consultants (inspector, management planner, project designer and project monitor), training providers, and lead credentials. This directory lists the businesses that hold an active Asbestos Contractor or Lead Abatement Contractor credential with an expiry date in the future. We do not list individual workers or supervisors, and we do not republish the file’s status-reason field, so if you need more detail on a credential, look it up in eLicense.
Delaware
Delaware publishes a list of certified asbestos vendors: firms that can provide asbestos professional services (building inspection and survey work) or abatement services (encapsulation, repair and removal) in the state. In the list they appear as Class A contractors, Class B contractors, and professional service firms. We show the certification number, expiry and address as the state gives them. The list also includes firms based outside Delaware, such as in Pennsylvania. Use the Delaware open data record to confirm.

- Abatement contractors: businesses and licensees listed as asbestos contractors (Florida, Illinois, Connecticut) or as Class A or B contractors (Delaware).
- Inspectors and consultants: Florida consultant licenses and Delaware professional service firms.
- Lead abatement (Connecticut): firms holding a Connecticut Lead Abatement Contractor credential. Lead is regulated separately from asbestos.
